Deep tissue
The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia.
Deep-tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is more beneficial for releasing chronic muscular tension.
Deep-tissue massage helps remove lactic acid and other metabolic waste products from muscles, allowing for better, oxygen- and nutrient-rich blood circulation.
A study published in the Journal “Alternative and Complementary Medicine” revealed a drop in blood pressure after a single 45-60 minute deep-tissue massage. What’s more, a meta-analysis published in 2010 in the “Journal of Clinical Psychiatry” revealed that this type of massage reduces stress hormone levels and heart rate, while boosting mood and relaxation by triggering the release of oxycodone and serotonin.
