Swedish massage
Traditional Swedish massage uses long gliding movements in the direction of the return of blood to the heart to increase circulation and relieve stress.
Other Swedish massage techniques include circular pressure applied with hands and palms, firm kneading, percussive tapping, bending and stretching.
One of the main aims of Swedish massage is to relax the whole body, but it goes beyond mere relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing oxygen levels in the blood, reducing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while relieving tension.
A study conducted by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, published in the New York Times, found that volunteers who received a 45-minute Swedish massage experienced a significant decrease in their levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, as well as arginine vasopressin,
a hormone that can increase cortisol levels. They also found an increase in lymphocytes (white blood cells that contribute to the immune system) and a strengthening of immune cells, which can help fight colds and flu.
Before and during your Swedish massage session, we encourage you to contact your professional massage therapist so that your massage can be customized to your specific needs.
